Our approach

One of Sussex's most established Chinese medicine clinics

Founded in 1998, Herbs Kingdom has grown into one of the leading providers of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Sussex — a calm, welcoming clinic on Portland Road in the heart of Hove.

Chinese medicine looks at the whole person, not just a single symptom. Rather than treating one part in isolation, our aim is to help your body find its own natural balance — supporting your energy, comfort and sense of wellbeing.

Every visit begins with listening. We take the time to understand you properly, then draw on a wide range of traditional therapies to put together a plan that's genuinely tailored to you.

"The main aim of Chinese medicine is to help the body re-establish the balance and harmony within itself, and between the body and its environment."

— The philosophy behind everything we do

Our treatments

Time-honoured therapies, tailored to you

Eight traditional treatments, all under one roof in Hove. Not sure what's right for you? We'll happily guide you at your first visit.

Acupuncture

The cornerstone of Chinese medicine. Very fine, single-use sterile needles are placed at specific points to encourage the body's natural balance. Most people find it surprisingly relaxing.

Chinese Herbal Remedy

Carefully chosen herbal formulas, prepared to a traditional diagnosis and blended for your individual needs — a personalised remedy rather than a one-size-fits-all product.

Tui Na Massage

A therapeutic Chinese massage that works along the body's meridians. Firm yet soothing, Tui Na is used to ease muscular tension and help everything move a little more freely.

Hot Cupping

Warmed glass cups create a gentle suction on the skin to draw out tension and encourage circulation. A deeply traditional therapy that many find releasing and restorative.

Moxibustion

The gentle warming of specific points using smouldering mugwort (moxa). A comforting, heat-based therapy often used alongside acupuncture to support and warm the body.

Gua Sha

Smooth, pressured strokes with a traditional tool to gently release tension held in the muscles and surface tissues — a simple technique with a long history.

Auricular Acupressure

Tiny seeds or points applied to the ear, where many traditional pressure points are mapped. A subtle, needle-free option that continues working gently between visits.

Hopi Ear Candles

A calming, traditional ear treatment that many find soothing and pleasantly relaxing — a quiet moment of care that pairs beautifully with our other therapies.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are far finer than the needles you might picture — about the width of a hair. Most people feel little more than a tiny tap, and many find the experience deeply relaxing. If you're nervous, just tell us; we'll take it at your pace.

How many sessions will I need?

It really depends on you and what you're coming for. Some people notice a difference quickly, while others prefer regular, ongoing care. We'll always be honest and give you a clear idea after your first consultation — never a hard sell.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral is needed. You're welcome to simply call us on 01273 746484 to arrange a visit. If you're receiving treatment elsewhere, it's helpful to let us know so we can care for you safely.

What should I wear or bring?

Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal, as some treatments need easy access to the arms and legs. There's nothing else you need to bring — just yourself.

How much do treatments cost?

Prices vary depending on the treatment and the time involved. For our current treatment prices, please give the clinic a quick call on 01273 746484 — we're always happy to talk you through your options.

Where are you, and is there parking?

You'll find us at 187b Portland Road, Hove BN3 5JA — easy to reach from across Brighton, Hove and the wider Sussex area, with on-street parking nearby.
